  D_X obteins a Good Design

The brand and identity D_X bestowed from Chicago with the prestigious prizes of design GOOD DESIGN in the category of graphics/identity/packaging.

The GOOD DESIGN awards, founded in 1950 by the old senior curator of the MoMA Edgar J. Kaufman Jr. with the participation of some of the pioneers of modern design, these awards are cosidered the oldest and most important design awards in the whole world, bestowing recognition to the achievements of the industrial and graphic design of the world, taking the continues renovation as an aim of the contemporary design. Basing the selection criteria in the upper quality of form, function and aesthetic of consuming products and graphics. Through all this years its been awarded from a paperclip to a Boeing 787 Dreamliner or a NASA spaceship.

During the GOOD DESIGN editions has been awarded the world´s most prominent designers like Jean Nouvel, Alessandro Mendini, Sir Norman Foster, Philippe Patrick Starck, Dieter Rams, Zaha Hadid, Karim Rashid and Naoto Fukasawa.

 

 

Over 10.000 submissions

In this edition works from forty eight nations were submitted. The award winners of GOOD DESIGN will become part of the pretigious permanent collection of The Chicago Atheaneum Museum of Architecture and Design. These are some of this year awarded works:

 

 

Between the 2008 awarded enterprises we find Apple Computer, Banana Republic, BMW Group, The Bosch Group, The Coca Cola Company, Google, Grundig, Intel, Japan Airlines, Logitech, Mercedes-Benz, Microsoft, Motorola, Siemens, Volkswagen and Whirlpool Corporation among others.

A prestigious jury

This year the jury were formed by prominent design and advertising leaders from New York, Los Angeles, The Chicago Athenaeum and The European Center. Are: James Biber from Pentagram, Jennifer M. Carpenter of Truck Product Architecture, Jeremy A. Hill from Bbulthaup Corporation, Tom Revelle by Humanscale, Suzanne Tick from Suzanne Tick, Ann Orion Eknoji from American Institute of Graphic Arts, Paul Gonzales by Yazdani Studio of Cannon Design, Dorothy Ottolia by Department of Design California State University, Eric Olson de Stuart Karten Design, Sandy Wilson from Bulthaup Corporation, Christian K. Narkiewicz-Laine and Lary L. Sommers from The Chicago Atheneum and Kieran Conlon from the European Center.

 

 

The Good Design logo

The logo was designed by Chicago graphic design, Mort Goldsholl in 1950 for Eero Saarinen and Charles Eames. Goldsholl disegned other logos and graphics for some of America´s most prominent companies in the 50s and 60s.
